This meeting comes at a time when pandemic preparedness is no longer a priority on the European Union agenda, and when Member States seem to be considering the threat as a non-imminent one. Moreover, European and international corporations lack guidance on which measures are necessary in order to face a pandemic, and on how to avoid its worst consequences which could potentially lead to a serious economic downturn. It is against this background that the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) has developed a new report addressing “Business Continuity Planning and Pandemic Influenza in Europe: An Analysis of Independent Sector and National Governments’ Guidance”.
The following pages aim to provide all interested parties with a summary of the discussions which took place at a breakfast meeting hosted by Dr. Thomas Ulmer MEP, where the findings of the LSHTM Report were discussed by a high-level panel which included the authors of the report and a variety of institutional and business representatives.
